Local elections set for May 12
The uniform election set for Saturday, May 12, will see some area voters going to the polls. Filing closed March 5 for places on the ballots.
Ballots by mail can be requested up to Friday, May 4. The last day to register to vote in these elections is Thursday, April 12. Early voting will take place Monday, April 30, through Tuesday, May 8.
Elections will take place for the following:
•City of La Vernia: Marie Gerlich and Robert Gregory are running for mayor. Bobby Richter will retain his council seat, unopposed. John Richter will replace Marie Gerlich, whose term is expiring.
•Stockdale: Voters will decide the fate of the city’s gas utility. Scott Soden and Becky Adams will retain their seats with no opposition; no one filed to fill Place V.
•Elmendorf: Voters will decide for mayor between incumbent Manuel Decena Jr. and Councilman Tom Green Jr.; for Place 3 between incumbent Peggy Stephens and Jesse Garcia; and for Place 5 between incumbent Linda Peña Ortiz and Tracie Delbosque.
Several municipalities and other entities in the Wilson County News coverage area are saving money by not holding elections, due to lack of opposition for offices up for election.
No elections will take place in:
•St. Hedwig: Mary Jo Dylla will remain mayor; Susann Baker also retains her seat. Councilman Justin Jones did not file to run again; David Rakowitz will replace him.
•Poth Independent School District: Anthony Cantu, Wade Harris, Michael Luna, and Wesley J. West will be the trustees; all were unopposed.
•City of Poth: No one filed to oppose Mayor Travis Pruski or councilmen Darren Dylla and Eric Ramirez.
•Falls City ISD and city of Falls City: No one filed to oppose incumbents.
