Shore Fishing Casting Club International (SFCCI) is a long name, and hard to remember. But what else would befit some of the nation’s best, brightest, and longest shore-based long distance tournament casters?

Founded in 1999 by a group of beach fishermen, the club has now developed into a multi-member, multi-state organization with a full mission statement and member base. The club supports the sports of fishing and competitive long-distance casting to the betterment of its members and the environment; strives to make one another better fishers by the sharing of knowledge, techniques, and data; and hopes to become better stewards of the precious natural resources available to it.

The club holds several tournaments each year here in the South Texas area. All are welcome to attend, whether to watch, compete, make new friends, just talk fishing, or bring and cook barbecue (this is Texas!). The tournament home over the last several years has been the Dick Kleberg Park in Kingsville.

The upcoming March tournament is known as one of the best to attend, and will be a fight to the end between the current national record-holder, Will Nash of San Antonio, and numerous up-and-coming challengers. Nash will be in attendance, as well as Tommy Farmer, another premier distance caster who hopes to regain his previous title.

The tournament schedule this year is as follows:

•March 24-25, Spring Fling Tourney in Kingsville.

•April 21-22, Casting/fishing tournament in Kingsville/Corpus Christi.

•June 23, Habanero Tourney in Kingsville.

•Aug. 25-26, Casting/fishing tournament in Kingsville/Corpus Christi.

•Oct. 27-28, Primo Tourney in Kingsville.
