Dorothy Frueh Geiger, 88, was called home by our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, March 20, 2012. Born on Oct. 1, 1923, in La Vernia, Texas, Dorothy was the daughter of the Rev. Nicholas Frueh and Elsie Beck Frueh. She was baptized, confirmed, and married by her father in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in La Vernia.

She earned degrees from Texas Lutheran College and Southwest Texas State Teachers College, now Texas Lutheran University and Texas State University. An elementary school teacher for 40 years, Dorothy taught various grades in the New Berlin School, La Vernia Elementary School, Grace Lutheran School, Crockett Elementary School, and Bowie Elementary School, retiring in 1990.

An active member of Grace Lutheran Church, Dorothy was a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) and served her Lord in various capacities, including organist, choir director, Sunday school teacher, and Evangelism Committee chairman. She was a member of the Texas Lutheran Alumni Association and the San Marcos Association of Retired Teachers.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, the Rev. Paul W. Geiger Sr.; her sister, Hermine Frueh Burow and husband, the Rev. Martin Burow; her brother, the Rev. Milton S. Frueh and wife Melitta; and sisters-in-law, Alma Spenn and husband, the Rev. Melvin Spenn, Hulda Tollefson and husband Alfred Tollefson Sr., and Laura Geiger.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Paul W. Geiger Jr. and daughter-in-law Patricia of San Marcos; her daughter, Miriam “Mimi” Geiger Bradley and son-in-law Richard of Madison, Miss.; and four grandchildren, Paul W. Geiger III and wife Christy of Spring, Pamela Geiger Brooks and husband Ian of Buda, John Marshall Adams and wife Carrie of Vero Beach, Fla., and Susan Adams Oliff and husband Tony of Ashburn, Va. In addition, she is survived by 10 great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Abigail, Gwendolyn, and William Geiger, Aidan, Mason, and Eva Brooks, Nicholas Oliff, and Emily and Jack Philpot; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Friday, March 23, from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Pennington Funeral Home in San Marcos.

A service of celebration was held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Grace Lutheran Church in San Marcos.

Interment followed Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in St. John’s Cemetery in San Antonio.

The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Austin Heart Hospital, Regent Care Center of San Marcos, Seton Hays Hospital, Kyle, and Austin Hospice -- Christopher House for the excellent care she received.
