1931-2012

Randolph B. Reid, 80, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, in the Abilene Regional Medical Center. He was born Oct. 13, 1931, in Randolph Field, Texas, the son of Alice Burrier and Bert Reid Sr.

He served in the U.S. Army from August 1949 to September 1952, earning the Combat Infantry Badge, the Bronze Star Medal, and the Korean Service Medal with five Bronze Service Stars. Randolph served in the U.S. Air Force from June 1952 until retiring as a master sergeant in December 1972. After retiring, he worked for the city of Abilene and performed maintenance at various apartment complexes.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Randolph is survived by his wife of 59 years, Vada Mae Reid of Abilene; his daughters, Brenda Thomson and husband Mark of Long Branch and Sandy Gann and husband Joe of Abilene; his sons, Ron Reid and wife Sharon of Mansfield and Russ Reid and wife Natalie of Marlborough, N.H.; four grandsons, Brad Reid, Matt Reid, Chris Reid, and Cody Gann and wife Monique; two great-grandsons, Joshua Reid and Colin Gann; one great-granddaughter, Jordan Chamberlain; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation was held Friday, March 2, from 5-7 p.m. in the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home in Abilene.

A graveside funeral service was held Saturday, March 3, at 2 p.m. in the Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery in Abilene.

Memorials contributions may be made to the Hendrick Hospice Care, 1682 Hickory St., Abilene, TX 79601.
