Letter: Texas DPS issues photo ID cards

Editor:

To rebuke U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder’s hollow argument that poor Texans do not have photo ID driver licenses, and thus cannot vote in Texas, I learned that the Texas Department of Public Safety does issue photo ID cards at a cost of $16, $6 to persons over age 65.

This seems to be a very low cost considering how helpful a photo ID can be in many circumstances other than voting. I can understand why some persons would be very reluctant to be photographed for a variety of reasons, e.g. criminal justice issues, and undocumented alien status.

The Democrat Party (not the Democratic Party) has a vested interest in opposing photo ID as a requirement for voting. Undocumented, unregistered voters are an important Democrat constituency in some areas, hence the official Democrat opposition to photo ID.

Perhaps the federal government should issue free photo ID cards to everyone, or at least to the poor. The Obama administration is already issuing free cell phones and free monthly cell phone service to the poor.

Although the U.S. Constitution never mentioned cell phones, the Obama administration thinks this was an unfortunate oversight on the part of Thomas Jefferson, et al.

Wah, wah! Oh my God. It's just too hard! If you're too damn lazy to get a photo ID you don't need to vote, period. If you are a criminal or an illegal you should not be voting anyway. That's the point of this whole exercise ... More ›
