Natalie Baker, a senior at La Vernia Hgh School, received the 2012 grand champion honor with her acrylic painting “God Bless Them, There, Cowgirls.” Her painting was used as the cover of the 2012 rodeo program for all to see.

The subject of her painting was a photo of Loni Kay Lester, a champion high school rodeo participant from Gonzales, who was about to ride into the rodeo arena on her horse, Biscuit, when the light and the moment took over for a perfect picture.

Natalie has studied art for five years. In 2010, she had the reserve grand champion, and in 2011, she was in the top 25 auction.

Each student artist receives the full amount of the winning bid in the form of a scholarship. Community members and businesses may donate toward the individual scholarships with add-ons of any amount.

For more information, call 830-217-5151.
