Sportsman Summit Pro-am Touring Series
As part of the Nitro Jam weekend two separate races for the Sportsman classes were held as drivers took their shot to qualify for the Tournament of Champions race in Tennessee at the end of the season. Saturday was race number one of the series, with a second session to be competed on Sunday. Damp, heavy air plagued the Top Sportsman class, who couldn’t keep their windshields clear. In the interest of safety, completion of the class was delayed until Sunday. ET Box and No-Box ran one round with buy backs, with the complete bracket to finished on Sunday as well.

Top Sportsman
In a race that took over 24 hours to complete, that may have seemed cursed, it was only fitting that it ended on yet another strange note. After being postponed Saturday night due to windshields fogging up, the finals were finally set for the Top Sportsman Ironman, in the final race of the weekend.

Glen Wright(Odessa, Tx.) in his new Bickel Chassis, Camaro, went up against Mark Ellis and his Chevy Cobalt. Ellis got off the line by a mere hundredth and when Wright got out of the groove, headed towards the wall and shut off, looked to be easy winner, right? Not so fast. Ellis drove it out the back door and broke out by .016. This left Wright to coast across the finish line at a whopping 43mph.
Glen Wright 15.90 @ 43.07 defeats Mark Ellis 7.86 @ 175.85

Top Dragster
Joseph Tinsley(Melvin, Tx.) didn’t qualify that well coming from 39th spot to the final against fifth qualifier, Larry Edison(Mineral Wells, Tx.). Tinsley’s T-N-T, Chevy powered Dragster outran Edison with a clean 7.704 pass for the win in the wee hours of the morning.
