Beneficent Beavers can donate to fund
FALLS CITY -- Falls City Independent School District (ISD) alumni and members of the general public now can bolster their Beaver Pride with their bucks by donating to the Falls City Education Foundation.
District Superintendent Linda Bettin said following the March 21 school board meeting that she informed the board that the Secretary of State’s office has granted the necessary approvals related to the group’s formation. The foundation is classified as a Section 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization under the U.S. Internal Revenue Code.
Bettin said earlier that the foundation is aimed toward improving Falls City ISD with scholarships and capital outlay. A board of directors, which will raise funds and solicit donations, governs it.
For more information about the foundation, call Bettin at 830-254-3551.
Also during the meeting, the board:
•Renewed the district’s annual retainer agreement with the law firm of Walsh, Anderson, Gallegos, Green & Treviño, P.C., which will cost the district $1,000.
•Voted to suspend the requirement that the end-of-course assessment for the 2011-12 school year will count for 15 percent of a student’s final grade, in light of its being the first year of the STAAR (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness) tests.
•Accepted the resignations of English teacher Debbie Wiatrek and food services employee Sandra Gonzales.
•Approved a one-year contract extension for the district’s professional teachers, counselor, nurse, and technology coordinator.
