1936-2012

Celestino M. “El Borrego” Gonzales passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at the age of 76 years and 14 days. He was born March 13, 1936, in Saspamco, Texas, the son of Celestino Gonzales Sr. and Ruth Moreno. He resided all his life in Saspamco and was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

Celestino was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Fidencio and Paul Gonzales; and one sister, Celia Gonzales.

He is survived by his wife, Maria Gonzales; his daughters, Margie Velez, JoAnn Cardenas and husband Alfonzo, Janie Weaver and husband Joe, and Michelle Ortega and husband Daniel, all of San Antonio; his sons, Celestino Gonzales III and Rudy Gonzales and wife Maria, all of Floresville; his sisters, Elda Montez and husband Julio of El Paso, Celia Gonzales of San Antonio, and Terri Villarreal and JoAnn Gonzales, both of Floresville; his brothers, Faustino Gonzales and wife Janie of San Antonio, Roy Gonzales and wife Mary of Floresville, Noberto Gonzales and wife Petra of San Antonio, Gilbert Gonzales and wife Hattie of Floresville, and Fidencio Gonzales and Gary Gonzales and wife Bonnie, all of San Antonio; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held Sunday, April 1, at 5 p.m. in the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Elmendorf, with a rosary recited at 7 p.m.

A funeral Mass was celebrated in the church Monday at 10 a.m., with the Rev. William McNamara as celebrant.

Interment followed in the Our Lady of Perpetual Cemetery in Saspamco.

Serving as pallbearers were Jonathan Weaver, Joe V. Weaver, Carlos Velez, Celestino “C.J.” Gonzales III, Daniel Ortega, and Alfonso Cardenas.
