1916-2012

Evelyn Winnifred Schelling went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 2, 2012. She died peacefully at Providence Park in Tyler, Texas. Evelyn was born Nov. 12, 1916, in Nordheim to Kurt and Elisa Schneider Schelling.

She graduated from Nordheim High School in 1935 as salutatorian of her class. Evelyn was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Nordheim until moving to Floresville in later years, where she became a member of the First Lutheran Church. She was baptized on April 18, 1917, by the Rev. C.T. Haskorf, and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on April 3, 1933, by the Rev. T.J. Roth in Nordheim.

Evelyn may be remembered by the people in Floresville as Mr. Smith’s secretary, as she worked at Smith Appliance and Gas for more than 30 years.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her sister, Irene L. Schelling.

She is survived by her sister, Elenor S. Koch of Tyler; her nephews, Barry K. Koch and wife Helen, and Craig N. Koch and wife Anne; her great-nieces, Danielle, Allison, and Mallory Koch; and her great-nephews, Spencer and Sean Koch, all of Tyler.

Visitation was held on Thursday, April 5, from 5-5:30 p.m. in the Stewart Family Funeral Home in Tyler with the Rev. Mark Bratten officiating.

A graveside service was held on Friday at 4 p.m. in the Nordheim City Cemetery in Dewitt County with the Rev. Pamela E. Dorman officiating.

Memorials may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church, 4900 Kinsey Drive, Tyler, TX 75703.
