New to this year’s show was the presentation of the Nixon-Smiley Livestock Show Hall of Fame award.

Buck Butler of the Nixon Livestock Commission was honored as the first recipient.

According to Jana Wheat, director of the Nixon-Smiley show, “Each year we plan to award one or two individuals for their past and continued support and involvement with our livestock show, as well as their support for the youth in our area through agriculture.”

Butler held the Nixon-Smiley show in his auction barn prior to the use of the current building and facilities.

“He and his son, Gary, along with his daughter-in-law, Charlene -- who served as a director for many years -- have been a vital part of the success of our show and sale for many, many years,” Wheat said.

A perpetual plaque will be placed in the barn as future honorees of the Hall of Fame are added.
