1928-2012

Olga Elizabeth Hoffmann Moravitz, beloved wife of Andrew “Andy” Moravitz and cherished mother of four, passed into the arms of the Lord Wednesday, April 4, 2012, in her home in Bisbee, Ariz., surrounded by her loving family, from complications of Alzheimer’s. Olga was born in the German community of Hobson, Texas, on March 17, 1928, to Ewald and Beda Hoffmann.

Olga and Andy moved from Texas to Bisbee in 1947 shortly after their marriage. They spent their entire 64 years of marriage and raised their family in Bisbee.

After many years as a stay-at-home mom, Olga worked for the Cochise County board of supervisors from 1962 until her retirement in 1986. To her family, Olga was the most loving mother and grandmother. Her greatest pride and joy were her children and grandchildren. Her most enjoyable roles were caretaker, cheerleader, and avid sports fan following their many sporting activities and games through their high school years and college at the University of Arizona, Arizona State University, University of California at Los Angeles, Stanford, and Idaho State. She also enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, sewing, cooking, and the great outdoors.

She was a country girl with a big heart. Olga was best known for her kindness, her unending energy, and talent as a seamstress, sewing most of her own and her daughter’s clothes, making quilts and crocheting baby blankets, afghans, and other crafts for her family members and charitable events. She was a fabulous cook and canner, famous to her family for her cookies, apple strudel, pickles, fish canning, and jam making. We all have a new guardian angel to look after us from heaven, her family said.

Olga is survived by her beloved husband, Andrew; her daughter, Sharon Harbour and husband John; her sons, Eugene Moravitz and wife Vy, Jeffrey Moravitz and wife Brenda, and Rodney Moravitz; her grandchildren, David, James, Matthew, and Lisa Harbour, Karin Forsythe, Ryan and Sarah Moravitz, Joshua and Mamie Moravitz, and Kate, Cassie, and Rodney Moravitz; 12 great-grandchildren, Chey-enne, Jacob, Andrew M., Tyler, Rachel, Andrew J., Aiden, Brian, Johnathan, Sadie, Sean, and Kailee; her sisters, Anna Mae Jurgajtis of Falls City and the late Raymond Jurgajtis and Rita Olenick and husband John of Poth; and her brother, Robert B. Hoffman and wife Martha of San Antonio.

A family rosary and visitation was held in the Jensen Funeral Home in Sierra Vista, Ariz., on Saturday, April 7, at 10 a.m.

A funeral service was held Friday, April 13, at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Bisbee.

Donations may be made in Olga’s name to The Arizona Alzheimer’s Consortium, c/o David Jerman, Administrative Director, 4745 N. Seventh St., Ste. 105, Phoenix, Ariz. 85014-3666.
