The Girl Scouts of La Vernia Troop 8 will hold a donation drive to “bale out” the horses of Osborne Stables Horse Rescue on Saturday, April 28, from noon to 4 p.m. at Osborne Horse Rescue, located at 5056 U.S. 87 W. in Sutherland Springs. In case of rain, the event will be held Saturday, May 5.

Osborne Stables is a permanent refuge for 34 horses that have come to the stable to recover from injuries, neglect, abuse, and abandonment.

The Girl Scouts welcome donations of any horse or barn items or visit the web page for a list of items needed.

Osborne’s wish list includes gift certificates or payments to accounts found on the website, or items such as heavy-duty water hoses or silent auction items. A grant writer, volunteers, and experienced horse handlers and trainers are also on the wish list.

One may consider joining in Osborne Stables’ fund-raising campaign, in which donors can take used ink jet print cartridges, used cell phones, MP3 players, handheld game devices, and digital cameras to Osborne Stables. These items are restored, or if not reparable, are disposed of as hazardous waste.

For more information about the Girl Scouts donation drive, contact Michele at 210-274-6710 or mbudde@theneonworks.com.
