First Lutheran Church in Floresville is seeking a Director of Youth and Family Ministry, part-time 20 hours/week. Qualifications: Have active worship life and ongoing growth in faith, understanding of Lutheran-Christian tradition, ability to work with both adults and youth, basic computer and organizational skills. Director will disciple both parents and youth grades 1-12, establish appropriate caring relationships with youth, seek opportunities to connect with youth in their environment on their schedule, organize parents into groups for children's ministry work, arrange at least 3 annual local events or trips for Sr. high youth, recruit and encourage youth and adults to take positions of shared leadership and involvement, create and implement means for regular communication with parents and youth, manage youth and family ministry calendar in collaboration with staff, parents, and youth. Donation drive for horse rescue

The Girl Scouts of La Vernia Troop 8 will hold a donation drive to “bale out” the horses of Osborne Stables Horse Rescue on Saturday, April 28, from noon to 4 p.m. at Osborne Horse Rescue, located at 5056 U.S. 87 W. in Sutherland Springs. In case of rain, the event will be held Saturday, May 5.

Osborne Stables is a permanent refuge for 34 horses that have come to the stable to recover from injuries, neglect, abuse, and abandonment.

The Girl Scouts welcome donations of any horse or barn items or visit the web page for a list of items needed.

Osborne’s wish list includes gift certificates or payments to accounts found on the website, or items such as heavy-duty water hoses or silent auction items. A grant writer, volunteers, and experienced horse handlers and trainers are also on the wish list.

One may consider joining in Osborne Stables’ fund-raising campaign, in which donors can take used ink jet print cartridges, used cell phones, MP3 players, handheld game devices, and digital cameras to Osborne Stables. These items are restored, or if not reparable, are disposed of as hazardous waste.
