Small town girl - maybe if Floresville sports had something to report on especially post season, then WCN would most like report. Until till then for Wilson County its going to Poth, LV and Stockdale for sports.

Muse - part of the problem has been the lack of consistency with the Boys. I believe my senior year (I was no longer playing - busy making minimum wage) was the first time in decades that we did not win the District or make playoffs. Now, some years they are in and some they are not - no domination of the area like in the 70s and 80s - when you were not only expected to win, but win by the mercy rule every game. Anyway, I've also noticed that the play is nowhere near what it was when I played. 7 out of 9 people in our lineup could knock it over the fence. We would have a couple of home runs, if not more, every game. I remember playing Floresville my sophmore year and I think we had something like 5 home runs in one game (we were playing in K-Town at the time).

In my neighborhood growing up, we played baseball every day of the summer. You would have 8 year olds playing with 18 year olds. That stuff doesn't exist anymore. I remember seeing Peter Paul Dugi hit a home run in high school and the ball was still going up when it went over the fence. The power back then was tremendous. These kids have power but they just don't have the experience we did back in the day to really knock the crap out of the ball. It was a passion for us. Its something to do until football season now.

There were times when baseball interest was equal to football in this community. As with many good things it seems baseball has been bulldozed aside. Maybe it's time to file an equal opportunity complaint on behalf of baseball.
