Retired school personnel gear up for gardening
Yvonne Harrison and Beth Price admire the generosity of the Wilson County Retired School Personnel, who donated items for the Gabriel Project, a program that supports mothers in crisis by supplying maternity or baby items.
Members of Wilson County Retired School Personnel met April 3 at the Floresville Independent School District (FISD) Alternative Education Center for their monthly meeting.
Johnny Hewell gave a quick update of the S.T.A.R. S. program, which teaches the value of community service along with learning about gardening. He also shared information about drought-tolerant plants suited to our county. Hewell distributed gardening information from the San Antonio Water System and the Wilson County Extension Agency as well, and donated two lovely hanging baskets as door prizes.
Yvonne Harrison collected diapers and baby items for the Gabriel Project, which offers support to mothers in crisis. She reported that two local mothers will be helped through this project.
The next meeting of retired school personnel is set for Tuesday, May 1, at the FISD Culinary Arts Classroom/Restaurant at 10 a.m. New officers will be installed, and a luncheon, prepared by one of the students, will be available afterwards.
