FLORESVILLE -- Carlos Hernan Barrera-Alvarado, 53, of Floresville is among those who were detained April 17, when officers from the Floresville Police Department and agents from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) raided two homes on Fifth Street here just before 8 p.m.
Sgt. Devin Keen of the Floresville Police Department said CBP agents joined police in the raid after officers received information that the two homes located across from the Floresville Head Start Center were being used as a stash house for illegal immigrants. This was after someone reported seeing as many as 20 people from various Latin American countries living there.
While CBP agents detained one man from Guatemala, officials suspect that the remaining individuals became aware of the raid, prompting them to flee.
Police also were looking for Barrera-Alvarado, also known as “Carlos Barrera.” He is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon -- a motor vehicle -- following a recent incident outside Big Dan’s bar on C Street. Keen said Barrera-Alvarado allegedly tried to hit someone with his car after the two had been involved in a fight.
Barrera-Alvarado is being held in the Wilson County Jail on $30,000 bond, according to jail records.
