S.A. Scorpions play home opener
SAN ANTONIO -- The San Antonio Scorpions played their first-ever home match in the North American Soccer League (NASL) against the Puerto Rico Islanders at a sold-out Heroes Stadium crowd of 13,151.
The community of San Antonio showed great support for the Scorpions and made the night a memorable one, creating a great atmosphere for soccer with chants, flags, drums, and much more.
It all started off early with tailgate parties out at STAR Soccer Complex and Morgan’s Wonderland. The three official supporter groups of the Scorpions led the march to the stadium just a few minutes before kickoff.
At the start of the match, the Scorpions enjoyed early possession of the ball, but quickly found themselves down in the score line. The Islanders took an early lead and never let it go. Only a few minutes later, the Scorpions had the opportunity to convert from the spot as Denissen earned a penalty kick, but failed to convert. The team was able to create some chances, but was unable to find the back of the net. The result at full time was 4-0.
The Scorpions will look to regroup as they have a short week when they host the Fort Lauderdale Strikers Saturday, April 21. Kickoff was scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
