The Floresville FFA Livestock Judging Teams competed March 12 in the largest judging contest in the world at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
Competing in the senior division were Floresville FFA members Hannah Sawers, Georgia Dunn, Haley Wares, Taylor Wall, Austin Dixon, and Cody Tieken. The team finished in third place overall out of 264 teams. Hannah was the 17th highest ranked individual out of 903 individuals.
Competing in the junior division were McClaine Pawelek, Zoey Wiatrek, Cade Burks, and Payton Meuth. This team placed 11th out of 128 teams and Zoey was the fourth-highest ranked individual out of 427 individuals. Zoey received a $1,250 calf scramble certificate to purchase a calf for the 2013 Houston Livestock Show for the individual placing honor.
In livestock judging, the individuals evaluate and place classes of four animals -- sheep, pigs, beef cattle, and goats.
This makes the fourth time that a Floresville FFA Senior Livestock Judging team has finished in the top five at the Houston Livestock Show Livestock Judging Contest. Previous years include 2005, 2006, and 2009, with the Floresville team winning the contest in 2006.
Judging team coaches and Floresville FFA advisors are Mark Jarzombek and Mike Billings.
