FHS April students of the month
Floresville High School’s April students of the month, Ashlyn Talley and Joseph Martinez.
The Floresville High School April female student of the month is Ashlyn Talley, the 18-year-old daughter of Jason and Michelle Talley.
Ashlyn’s strengths include adaptability, context, deliberative, empathy, and individualization. These strengths have helped Ashlyn achieve success in the classroom. In addition to being in the National Honor Society, she has earned the Outstanding Student of the Year award for biology, food tech, and geometry. Ashlyn has also maintained all A’s.
As a member of the varsity tennis team, Ashlyn and her partner won second place in the district competition for girls doubles. In fall tennis competition, Ashlyn was a regional qualifier, and was named First Team All District No. 5 for singles, and Second Team All District No. 2 for girls doubles. In 2011 spring tennis, Ashlyn was a regional qualifier, and was named All-District Honorable Mention. In 2009-10, she received honors for Academic All-District and Honorable Mention All-District for girls doubles.
Ashlyn is also very active in the FFA, and has served as reporter and vice president. She has also earned the Texas Lonestar Degree for FFA and placed fifth at State competition with the public relations team.
When not busy with academics and extracurricular work, Ashlyn is giving back to the community. She has participated in highway cleanup projects, visited the veterans home to sing Christmas carols, and decorated and volunteered at Vacation Bible School.
Despite her demanding schedule, Ashlyn still finds time for employment. Last summer, she worked as an office assistant at Talley Benefits. She is currently employed as an office assistant at Floresville South Elementary through the high school co-op program.
Upon graduation in June, Ashlyn plans to attend Texas A&M University, where she will pursue a degree in animal science, and work toward becoming a veterinarian.
The April male student of the month is Joseph Martinez, the 18-year-old son of John and Asano Martinez.
Joseph describes himself as perseverant and hardworking, as well as being a good listener.
Joseph is a member of the National Honor Society. In addition, he has earned recognition for perfect attendance, and was named to the A Honor Roll. Joseph has already been chosen as a recipient of the Rising Roadrunner Scholarship.
Joseph is also very active in extracurricular activities. He is a member of the Mighty Tiger Marching Band and has served as drum major the past two years. He was also chosen as outstanding drum major and captain. As a member of FHS athletics, he has played the position of stopper on the varsity soccer defense for the past three years, and this year assisted the team in making school history by advancing to the fourth round of playoffs. For his efforts on the soccer field, Joseph has earned several accolades. He has been recognized as Academic All-District and has been named to Honorable Mention All-District Team and Second Team Defense All-District Team. Joseph also ran cross country for the Tigers.
When not busy with academics and extracurricular activities, Joseph volunteers his time and talents in the community, including the Blue Santa program through his church, helping to wrap gifts. He also participated in drives to collect school supplies, and has spent time visiting the elderly.
Despite his busy schedule, Joseph still finds time for employment. He has worked at both the Arcadia Theater and Sonic Drive-In.
Upon graduation in June, Joseph plans to attend either the University of Texas at San Antonio or Texas A&M University, where he will major in either engineering or architecture.
