HOMELAND SECURITY LAREDO FIELD HEARING TO EXAMINE FACILITATING TRADE AND ENHANCING SECURITY AT U.S. PORTS OF ENTRY

Laredo, TX -- On Tuesday, Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28), Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security’s Subcommittee on Border and Maritime Security, will participate in a Committee on Homeland Security field hearing in Laredo that will investigate impediments to the free flow of legal commerce at U.S. ports of entry and examine local concerns about these issues. The hearing, which is entitled “Using Technology to Facilitate Trade and Enhance Security at Our Ports of Entry,” will focus on ways in which technology can aid U.S. officials in speeding the flow of port traffic and pinpointing drugs and dangerous materials. It will be chaired by Congressman Michael McCaul (TX-10).

Following the hearing, Committee Members will observe U.S. Customs and Border Protection operations along the Rio Grande. At this time, credentialed media will be invited to take footage of law enforcement marine equipment.
