1932-2012

Elias John Dugi, known to many as Jessie, of Kosciusko, Texas, passed away, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, April 22, 2012, at the age of 79. He was born in Kosciusko on Sept. 8, 1932, to Victoria Wiatrek and Conrad Dugi Sr.

At the age of 18, he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Staten Island, N.Y. After receiving an honorable discharge, he returned to Kosciusko and worked briefly at Southern Steel in San Antonio until he decided that farming and ranching were his passion.

On Nov. 18, 1961, he married Florence Kyrish. They recently celebrated 50 years of marriage. Elias is remembered as a very religious, loving, and caring person who was always trying to help others.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers-in-law, Fabian Sczepanik and Henry Kyrish Jr.; and his niece, Deborah Gorzell.

Elias is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Florence Kyrish Dugi; his daughters, Karen Herber and husband Charles of Kosciusko, Jackie Gawlik and husband Bobby and Cynthia Moy and husband Dennis, all of Falls City, and Diane Bayer and husband Kenneth of Floresville; his son, Mark Dugi and wife Kim of Kosciusko; his brothers, Frank Dugi and wife Florence, Benjamin Dugi and wife Grace, Conrad Dugi Jr. and wife Rose, and Chester Dugi and wife Melba; his sisters, Regina Foegelle and husband Adrian, Rosemary Sczepanik, and Gladys Billimek and husband Bobby; his brother-in-law, Leon Kyrish and wife Dene; and his grandchildren, Cherrelle Herber Friesenhahn, Dannielle, Skip, Brianne, and Abbagaille Herber, Justin, Clarissa, and Blake Gawlik, Taylor and Skylar Moy, Victoria and Bethany Bayer, and Hunter and Rhett Dugi.

Visitation took place Tuesday, April 24, from 7:15-8 p.m. in St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Kosciusko with a rosary recited at 8 p.m.

A funeral Mass was held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday in the church with Father Andrew Waszczenko, Father Bill Zadora, and Father Casey Jarzombek officiating. Music was provided by Lillian Sekula and Carol Zidek.

An interment with military honors followed in St. Ann’s Parish Cemetery in Kosciusko.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 8161 F.M. 541, Stockdale, TX 78160.
