Letter: ‘Complex’ questions for the city
It was brought up in the April 26 Floresville City Council meeting that the sports complex was voted on by citizens in 1996. Who says that it has to be implemented? And who says it has to be implemented now -- 16 years later?
The FEDC is willing to pay $125,000 a year for the next 20 years for a sports complex, but there are many other questions. What about maintenance and upkeep for the park? What about machinery and equipment to maintain it? How many employees will have to be hired for the upkeep and at what salaries?
There will be other issues as well, such as upkeep of the additional equipment. Where is all this money coming from?
If San Antonio can’t get a new semi-pro or professional sports team, why does our mayor presume that Floresville can get one to play in a sports complex? Ask Gordon Hartmann about his soccer field. There are no semi-pro or professional teams in this area, including Karnes, Wilson, or Atascosa counties.
Let’s go out and vote in a new city council who will have the citizens’ interests in mind instead of their own.
