Letter: Council meeting is eye-opener
The Floresville City Council met April 26, and it was an eye-opener!
Many people were in attendance, but what an eye-opener it was in many areas.
A question was asked about the city not paying their dues to the college here. The mayor said they had. Monica Flores, who is on the Floresville Economic Development Corp. board, said no such luck.
Mayor pro tem Jesse Chris Flores was approved for a leave of absence with approval by Louis Rosenberg, the city attorney. Rules do not apply for them, or so it seems!
The council was asked about both laws in regard to kin or next of kin holding office in the city. City Manager Andy Joslin approved the hire of Gloria Martinez, first cousin to Councilman Sherry Castillo. I asked how this could be. He said everybody is kin to one another. But what about the laws and bylaws, I asked. He said he had approved such a thing. It seems rules and regulations do not apply to them. Why?
I advised Mr. Joslin that I would report this to the paper. He said OK.
So now we know to what extent the city manager and council will go, knowing this is so wrong.
They were asked to hold off on building a sports complex until the necessary things were worked out.
Wait and see!
Thanks to everyone who attended and hope to see all of you there again.
