FLORESVILLE -- A teacher’s aide with the Floresville Independent School District (ISD) has been fired after allegations surfaced that she was taking money from the district, according to Superintendent Jerry Lee Hunkapiller.
Rebecca Lyn Morin, 39, of Floresville, was arrested April 19 by Floresville ISD Police Chief Brenda Ullevig and charged with theft of property worth more than $1,500, but less than $20,000. According to Wilson County Jail records, she was released after posting $20,000 bond, pending consideration of her case by a grand jury.
“The money taken will be reimbursed in full to the district,” Hunkapiller said in a press release. “The district takes very seriously its responsibility to protect the taxpayer dollars that are entrusted to us. We will not tolerate such conduct and we will prosecute to the fullest extent under the law.”
In a separate matter, Ullevig is investigating allegations of an inappropriate relationship between a Floresville High School student and a teacher/coach, which allegedly occurred in spring 2011. Hunkapiller said in a press release that Floresville ISD Athletic Director John Baker approached district officials April 19, after receiving information of the alleged indiscretion.
Ullevig is coordinating with officials from the 81st Judicial District Attorney’s Office in the probe and as of April 30, Floresville ISD is unable to confirm that a physical relationship occurred between the teacher and student. The teacher did, however, resign April 27.
