FLORESVILLE -- The Tiger baseball team had an outside chance of making the playoffs this season, but to make it happen, the team had to defeat the district champion Victoria West Warriors last Friday evening in Floresville. Unfortunately for the Tigers, the Warriors returned home with a 10-1 win.
Drew Clements started the night on the hill for the Tigers, but the Warriors jumped on the right-hander early with 2 runs in the top of the first inning. After a scoreless second inning of play, the Warrior bats were in full swing during the third inning, as Victoria West picked up another 5 runs to lead the game 7-0. Matthew Roe took over on the mound for Floresville, and he threw well through the fourth and fifth innings of play, but was unable to get any run support on the board.
In the top of the sixth, the Warriors earned 2 more runs to lead the game 9-0. Floresville managed to score a run in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 9-1. In the top of the seventh, however, the Warriors got the run back, taking a 10-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh. Floresville was unable to score in the bottom half of the frame, though, and the Tiger season ended with a 10-1 loss to the district champs.
Clements picked up one strikeout during the game, and Roe fanned six batters. The duo combined to allow seven walks. Garrett Pollok, Sam Bryan, and Eric Ramdass each had hits during the game, and Pollok drove Brandon Cisneros in for the Tigers’ lone run.
Floresville ends its season with an overall mark of 8-15, and the team was 2-8 in District 30-4A play.
