Members of the East Central FFA Chapter participated in the Invitational FFA Agricultural Sales Career Development Event (CDE) during the Texas State University Contest held March 23 in San Marcos.

The team of Alexis Wagner, Lindsay Hamer, and Shawn Short placed fifth at this year’s event. Individually, Wagner placed eighth while Hamer placed 11th. East Central ag teacher Lorie Kempen coached the team.

“Through this event, students are able to prepare for career opportunities by participating in a wide range of sales activities that develop their interpersonal skills,” said Melissa Dunkel, CDE education specialist. Members complete an objective test and an individual oral sales presentation. A series of practicums test participants’ knowledge on prospecting customers, promotion and advertising, customer relations, and customer service. The next event will be the state contest Friday, May 4, in Huntsville.

East Central FFA members compete in a variety of events, such as ag sales, livestock judging, poultry evaluation, meats evaluation, floriculture, and many more.
