Owning and pursuing equine endeavors as a pastime is a very worthwhile experience. However, there is a great deal of knowledge and expertise that needs to be learned. To help local horse owners better manage their horses, the Texas AgriLife Extension Service offices in Wilson and Karnes counties are offering a program geared toward new horse owners. The program will be held Friday, May 11, at 3 p.m. in the Wilson County Show Barn located on S.H. 97 east of Floresville.

The topics to be covered include equine emergency care, horseshoeing, and groundwork principles that every horse owner should know. Rose Funke, D.V.M., will cover what you need to know or do before the vet arrives. Farrier Jeff Batey will cover what horse owners should know regarding quality farrier work; and J.D. Folbre, Karnes County AgriLife Extension agent, will cover the importance of handling your horse on the ground.

For more information, call the Wilson County office of the Texas AgriLife Extension Service at 830-393-7357.
