Editor:

I have a son who lives in a very exclusive neighborhood in Cooke County, Texas, (Gainesville) near the Oklahoma border.

He tells me his appraisal district up there cut his appraisal 3 percent in 2011 and 4 percent in 2012, saving him hundreds of dollars.

I replied my appraisal district in Wilson County has raised my appraisal exactly 10 percent every year for the past several years. I would have appealed had it not been I had the over-65 exemption. I asked him if he had a clue as to the difference.

“Yes,” he answered. “Your subdivision does not have an attorney living in every third house!”
