CANDIDATES' FORUM: Kip Workman, Republican
■ Commissioner, Pct. 3
I have owned and operated my own welding, construction, and ranching business for 28 years. Repairing and maintaining equipment, erecting buildings, site work, clearing land, building roads and bridges, and managing budgets and payroll are among my skills. I have served as a firefighter for 24 years, 15 as chief. In the fire service, I trained in emergency management and incident command; worked with local and state government, civic organizations, and surrounding departments; and wrote successfully for grants.
Politics and public service have always interested me. I consider myself a conservative, believing local government provides essentials like good, safe roads; fire, EMS, and police protection; and safety and health codes, while working within budget and representing our state and federal governments. Our taxpayer dollars should be used to receive the most value. I’m strongly against increasing taxes and allowing elected officials to vote self raises.
Julie and I have been married for 26 years; we have two boys, Kris and Kyle, who grew up in La Vernia and attended school here. We attend the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs.
I believe Wilson County and Precinct 3 deserve someone who will work hard for them and represent the office responsibly.
