CANDIDATES' FORUM: Patricia Alvarez, Democrat
■ 4th Court of Appeals, Pl. 3
I am from Laredo, Texas. I come from a big family, and am a grandmother!
I attended UTSA (BBA 1982) and UT School of Law (JD 1987). I am Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law. Martindale--Hubbell rates me as an “AV Preeminent” attorney. For the past nine years, Texas Monthly has named me a “Texas Super Lawyer.” I am a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, which is an honorary society by invitation only. I am a frequent lecturer at national, statewide, and university levels on professional matters.
We need justices who apply the law, and do not legislate from the bench. A justice should not be blind to injustices where the law has been skewed, ignored, or invented. Justices must show genuine care about matters appealed to their court, decide the issues fairly and objectively, and judge all cases and litigants equally according to the existing law.
As a justice, I will protect all parties’ constitutional and legal rights. I shall never ignore or obstruct justice based on financial clout, political pressure, or inappropriate influence. I shall render impartial and equal justice according to the laws of our land and of our state.
