CANDIDATES' FORUM: David M. Williams, Republican
■ State Board of Education, District 3
I am running for this office in order to make a difference for families in Texas. I am a Christian, a husband, a grandfather, a father, a military veteran, and currently a professional educator.
I have been very disturbed by the trends that are occurring in education in many states that appear to be undermining the family, free speech, the Constitution, and religious liberty for students and teachers. I believe that schools are accountable to parents and they are given the privilege of teaching as a sacred trust from the parents.
All families must operate on a budget and the same must be true of a state or a school district. Allotted funds must be managed well and expenditures well-documented. Some system of accountability must be in place to verify student learning is taking place. Taxpayers deserve to know how their investment is being utilized.
If elected, I will support educational standards that will develop good citizens that are well-prepared to meet the challenges of the 21st century, by using their God-given talents and creativity to keep America the “city on a hill” envisioned by our Forefathers.
