ESD No. 2 business plan proposes new fire station
Attorney Chris Hugg (from left) of the Law Offices of Louis T. Rosenberg reviews the business plan for Wilson County Emergency Services District (ESD) No. 2 with ESD board members Greg Burkett, Keith Wildes, and Bill Kenney.
EAGLE CREEK -- Wilson County Emergency Services District (ESD) No. 2 continues to take shape. The latest step is the board’s May 3 adoption of its business plan.
Board president Keith Wildes said the plan will help the ESD in the future when it attempts to obtain financing for capital projects. Goals outlined in the plan include the establishment of an ESD operations center to be built next year near the intersection of U.S. 181 and Abrego Lake Drive, on land that the district has been offered by a developer.
“The station would provide space for the staging of fire and EMS vehicles and equipment. This will serve as the district headquarters and business office,” according to the plan.
The business plan also indicates that the board will have to consider the lease/purchase “of at least a pumper and a brush truck” to help establish the new fire department.
A copy of the business plan is available at www.wilsoncountynews.com.
Also during the meeting, the board took action related to terms for its members. Each member was appointed in January 2011 to a two-year, staggered term, which required them to draw lots to determine the expiration of those terms. The terms of Wildes, Greg Burkett, and Sarah Gella will end in January 2013, while Bill Kenney and Bob Gadd will serve until January 2014.
In other action, Nancy Vaughan was selected to perform the ESD’s first financial audit, for a fee not to exceed $3,500.
No action or discussion occurred related to a special workshop earlier that day with the Wilson County Commissioners Court. This was because while Wildes, the commissioners, and representatives of Eagle Creek Volunteer Emergency Services engaged in a lengthy discussion, no action was taken.
