Immanuel Lutheran Church is now hiring for a Youth and Family Ministry Director. Pastoral: Minister to youth and their families during Sunday School and other church programs, being present in their lives outside the church walls, available for common concerns and in crisis situations. Leadership: Recruit and nurture Youth and Family Ministry program. Administration : Manage the planning process and coordinate with Pastor and Youth Committee all regular ministries to youth and their families. This includes youth of all ages on Sunday mornings and mid-week events; assisting with Confirmation, special events, trips and retreats, and parent meetings. Stewardship: Ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of youth programs, manage youth ministry budget, and collaborate with the sponsors of each Youth group. Ability to build, lead, and empower youth. Ability to implement a ministry vision. Familiarity with Lutheran Doctrine required; must be comfortable teaching it and representing Lutheran Theology. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, email, internet, and social media. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to adapt and evaluate curriculum preferred. Must have excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability. Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills required, with sensitivity to church members and visitors. Understanding and enjoyment of youth and families and guiding their spiritual development. 1952-2012

Almighty God, Father of all mankind, called Margaret Lou Thonhoff Hensley from her sojourn on Earth to eternal life with Him in heaven Wednesday, April 25, 2012.

Affectionately known as “Mitzi” by family and friends, she was born in the Nix Hospital in San Antonio on Sept. 20, 1952. She lived with her parents from 1952-53 in San Antonio; in Jourdanton from 1953-56; and in Fashing from 1956-70.

After graduation from Karnes City High School in 1970, she attended Texas Lutheran College and received a bachelor’s degree in teaching in 1974, and received a master’s degree from Texas Christian University. After a 33-year career as a public school teacher at various places in Texas, she retired and then taught mathematics at Hill County College for a year and served as a grants program math teacher for another three years in Kenedy.

She had lived in Karnes City since 2007 and was an active member of the Karnes County Retired Teachers Association and an Ambassador of the Texas Folklife Festival. She attended the United Methodist Church in Karnes City.

Margaret is survived by her son, John David Hensley of Fort Collins, Colo.; her parents, Victoria Marie Balser and Judge Robert H. Thonhoff Sr. of Karnes City; her brother, Robert H. Thonhoff Jr. and wife Kim of Austin; her sister, Susan Elizabeth Thonhoff Rodriguez and husband Rudy of San Antonio; and three nephews, Jason R. Thonhoff, M.D., Ph.D., of Houston and wife Susi Ehrig Thonhoff, Travis W. Thonhoff of San Antonio, and Kyle A. Rodriguez of Houston; and a niece, Kara D. Rodriguez-Carlson of Yucca Valley, Calif., and husband U.S. Marine Corps 1st Lt. Nathanael L. Carlson, currently deployed in Afghanistan.

Visitation was held Saturday, April 28, from 5-8 p.m. in the Rhodes Funeral Home in Karnes City, Texas.

A funeral service was held Sunday at 3 p.m. in the United Methodist Church in Karnes City.

Interment followed in the Karnes City Cemetery in Karnes City.
