THREE RIVERS -- After making short work of Ben Bolt in the bi-district round of competition, the Falls City Beaverette softball team advanced to the area championship. The team gave it a great effort, but eventually fell to Charlotte, ending the Beaverettes’ season.

Postseason play began on May 1 for Falls City, as the Beaverettes traveled to Beeville to face Ben Bolt in a single-game playoff. Falls City made quick work of the Lady Badgers, though, dishing out a lopsided 15-0 win, and easily advancing to the second round of competition.

In round two, the Beaverettes traveled to Three Rivers on May 4 to take the field against Charlotte in a best-of-three series for the area championship.

The Beaverettes scored the first run of the series in the bottom of the first, but Charlotte thundered back in the top of the third with 6 runs. Falls City scratched 1 run in the bottom of the fifth inning to make the score 6-2, and Charlotte tacked on one more in the top of the seventh to eventually win it by the final of 7-2.

In the second game of the Friday-night doubleheader, the Trojanettes jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first inning of play. Falls City came back to score 2 in the top of the second inning, but Charlotte matched the effort in the bottom half of the frame for an 8-2 advantage. The Trojanettes added 3 runs in the bottom of the third inning, and 1 more in the fourth, and led 12-2 going into the top of the fifth.

The Beaverettes were down, but not out, and the team roared back in the top of the fifth. Falls City scored 4 runs against one of the best teams in Class 1A, and narrowed the gap on the scoreboard. The Beaverettes were held scoreless in the sixth, but added to the board in the top of the seventh. Falls City needed 6 runs to tie the game. The Beaverettes scored 2 runs in the seventh, but couldn’t complete the comeback, and fell by the final score of 12-8. With the loss to Charlotte, the season ended for Falls City.
