FEDC board rescinds CVG offer

FLORESVILLE -- The Floresville Economic Development Corp. (FEDC) will not be selling land to Floresville-based CVG Construction, following its 3-1 vote May 7 to rescind an earlier decision.

The board voted at its March 5 meeting to sell the company 2 acres in the Lone Oak Business Park off U.S. 181, on which the company intended to build 40 cottages, for $25,000 per acre. But after reconvening in open session May 7 after “deliberations about real property,” Juan Ortiz, Fred Gonzales, and Becky Silva voted to rescind the offer. Monica Flores cast the lone dissenting vote. Board president Sarah Mendoza did not vote, as is her custom during the meetings.

Two of the FEDC’s board members were absent from the meeting. Mendoza said that Gloria Estrada Martinez was no longer with the board, but did not give a reason why David Longoria was not present.

FEDC Executive Director Jesse Perez said after the meeting that the board took the action because CVG never made an effort to finalize negotiations with the corporation.

“They never called back,” he said. “They never came back and told us what they wanted to do. After 60 days, that told us that they were not interested.”

Ron Perry of CVG had nothing but praise for the FEDC and its board in its talks with him and business partner Eli Garza.

“They did a great job,” Perry said. “I just couldn’t get my end of the project off the ground.”

Also during the meeting, the board held a public hearing on its proposal to allocate $125,000 annually for 20 years toward construction of a sports complex. For more, read article above.

My question was: is it legal to be on the FEDC board and not live within the city limits. You may have read my post incorrectly.

My point is if you can read, that although I appreciate what Mr Longoria has done for the kids and I have seen how much time he puts into it, he will be for this project for the simple fact of wanting to get this complex done, ... More ›
