SUTHERLAND SPRINGS -- Drivers on U.S. 87 south of here during morning drive time May 11 hit the brakes, as they found traffic blocked both directions by a PINNergy Ltd. tanker blocking the highway.
According to Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Highway Patrol Trooper Michael Baumann, the driver of the tractor-trailer missed a turn at the intersection of U.S. 87 and S.H. 97, and “thought he’d turn around” just beyond the intersection.
Michael McBurnett of Pleasanton made a U-turn, but the tractor’s tires became mired in deep mud caused by the torrential rains May 10, and the rig became stuck. A commercial wrecker service from San Antonio was called to extract the rig, Baumann said.
Traffic began flowing shortly after 8 a.m. DPS Trooper E.T. Hughey assisted Baumann at the scene.
