Oil, gas waste workshop
A local control of oil and gas waste workshop will be held Thursday, May 24, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., in the Floresville Event Center, located at 600 S.H. 97W. in Floresville.
The workshop is appropriate for peace officers, code enforcement officers, registered sanitarians, prosecutors, elected officials, and other local government staff needing a good understanding of the options available to fight illegal dumping.
A special feature of this class will be a presentation by Sam Feagley, Texas A&M University professor, and state soil environmental specialist, on “Land Application of Drilling Fluids: Landowner Considerations.”
This class will cover such topics as state criminal laws that cities and counties can use to control sloppy hauling and illegal dumping of oil and gas waste in their communities; the use of municipal ordinances to control pollution by oil and gas waste haulers; and local civil suits to stop sloppy and illegal hauler activity when all else fails.
The free event is sponsored by the Alamo Area Council of Governments and the San Antonio River Authority and will include six hours of code enforcement/RS/TCLEOSE continuing education credits.
