1914-2012

Josephine Urbanczyk Palitza, a longtime resident of Cestohowa, Texas, entered eternal rest Sunday, May 6, 2012, at 12:25 a.m. in the Connally Memorial Medical Center in Floresville, at the age of 97 years, 4 months, and 21 days. Josephine was born Dec. 15, 1914, in Panna Maria, the daughter of Alex and Lucy Kolodziej Urbanczyk.

She attended Panna Maria schools and was a homemaker. Josephine married Clement Palitza on Nov. 9, 1937, in the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Cestohowa.

Clement, Josephine’s beloved husband of more than 71 years, preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 2009.

Josephine had many talents she was known for throughout her entire life. She was an excellent seamstress, making her children’s clothes when they were growing up, and her abilities even expanded to include wedding and bridesmaids’ dresses. She loved to quilt and made many over the years, ensuring each grandchild received one as a gift at milestones during their lives. She also loved growing flowers and had a full yard every year. She was an excellent baker and whenever you visited her home, there would always be a cake, cookies, coffee cake, or cinnamon rolls and homemade bread. Josephine also enjoyed gardening and canning fruits and vegetables, raising chickens, and just about any activity one does on a farm. It was hard work but she always managed to get it all done and still raise her seven children. She was a wonderful mother and loved all her 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren very much.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clement Palitza; her son, Isidore Palitza; and her siblings, Elias Urbanczyk, Katie Dugi, Henry Urbanczyk, and Leon Urbanczyk.

Josephine is survived by her children, Adrian Palitza and wife Lucy, Fabian Palitza and wife Peggy, Elizabeth Helmke and husband Al, Alvin Palitza and wife Shirley, Dorothy Stolle and husband Bill, and Mary Moczygemba and husband Gene; her daughter-in-law, Lorine Palitza; and her grandchildren, Mark and Claire Palitza, Helen and Mike Hyche, Carolyn and Todd Burek, Jeffrey and Karolyn Palitza, Debra and Steve Merrill, Dorene Palitza, Anne Palitza, Sally and Donald Capra, Gary and Amy Helmke, Daniel Palitza, Sara and Kevin Lyssy, Stacy and Darren Korzekwa, Shannon Stolle, Kevin and Elizabeth Moczygemba, Brenda Moczygemba, and Julie Moczygemba. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Josephine and Jessica Palitza, Kyle, Hannah, and Nathan Hyche, Matthew, Luke, Samuel, and Emma Burek, Shane, Craig, and Kalli Palitza, Clayton and Brandon Merrill, Ellie Helmke, Kathryn and Rebecca Palitza, and Seth and Kenna Lyssy; numerous nieces and nephews; and her sister, Pelegia Gorzell and husband Thomas.

Visitation was held Tuesday, May 8, at 5:30 p.m. in the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Cestohowa.

A rosary was recited Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the church.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the church with Father Andrzej Waszczenko officiating.

Interment folllowed in the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cemetery in Cestohowa.

Serving as pallbearers were Gary Helmke, Darren Korzekwa, Kevin Moczygemba, Daniel Palitza, Jeff Palitza, and Mark Palitza.
