Let’s get ready for fun at the Jubilee
The Stockdale Chamber of Commerce held its regular monthly meeting on April 30. The board remains busy preparing for the upcoming Watermelon Jubilee that is quickly approaching in less than a month!
A few key reminders!
Candidates vying for spots in this year’s Jubilee and Rodeo courts are out selling concert and rodeo tickets, raffle tickets, Chamber of Commerce personal and business memberships, and sponsorships! Contact any court candidate to purchase any of these items or to become a 2012 Jubilee sponsor.
Concert and rodeo tickets may also be purchased at our local ticket outlets, which include Brahma Bullpen, Brahma Express, and Texas Cooler.
The deadline to enter this year’s Watermelon Growing Contest is Wednesday, June 13, by 5 p.m. Entries received on or before Friday, June 1, are $25; entries received after Friday, June 1, but before 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13, are $50. All entries are required to submit an additional donation of five watermelons to be turned in at the official weigh-in on Thursday, June 14. The weigh-in will be held between the hours of 4-8 p.m. at 1009 West Jackson St. in Stockdale.
The deadline for early registration for this year’s Watermelon Crawl 5K Run/Walk and Kids Crawl is Friday, June 15, at 3 p.m. Registration forms are available on the chamber’s website at www.stockdaletx.org or at the Brahma Bullpen in Stockdale. Early registration is also available online at http://www.athleteguild.com. Race-day registration will be available from 6:45-7:45 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, at 1009 West Jackson St. in Stockdale.
The Jubilee Parade Committee is looking for individuals or groups interested in being part of this year’s parade. Parade applications are available on the chamber’s website or at Stockdale City Hall, or you may call 210-771-1719 for further information. Completed applications may be dropped up at City Hall.
Mutton bustin’ lottery entries will be accepted until Friday, June 1, and entry forms are available on the chamber’s website. There is a $5 nonrefundable application fee that is due with each entry, and the lottery will be conducted during the 2012 Former Queens Tea on Saturday, June 2. Lottery selections will be notified by phone and/or email on Monday, June 4. Mutton bustin’ is open to children ages 4-7 weighing 55 pounds or less.

The 2012 Former Queens Tea will be held on Saturday, June 2, from 2-4 p.m. at the new Stockdale Independent School District (ISD) middle/high school cafeteria. All former Jubilee and Rodeo queens are invited and encouraged to attend. This year’s program will involve meeting the 2012 Jubilee and Rodeo Court candidates, meeting 2011-12 Miss Rodeo Texas, conducting the 2012 mutton bustin’ lottery, and assembling and delivering watermelon goodie bags to residents at the Stockdale Nursing Home. We look forward to seeing all of the former queens.
The Coronation of Queen Melone LXVIII will be held on Saturday, June 9, at 7 p.m. in the Stockdale Elementary Cafeteria. Admission is free with a current Chamber of Commerce membership card!
Remember that the Stockdale Volunteer Fire Department will be charging $5 per car to park at the Jubilee grounds during Jubilee weekend. However, parking is free all weekend with a current Chamber of Commerce membership card! All parking proceeds go to benefit the Stockdale Volunteer Fire Department.

Due to the Memorial Day holiday, the next regular meeting of the Stockdale Chamber of Commerce will be held on Tuesday, May 29, at 7 p.m. in the offices of the Stockdale Economic Development Corp. It’s not too late to get involved for this year! Contact any Chamber director if you are interested in being a Jubilee volunteer.
