This year La Vernia’s poultry, floriculture, meat, and milk quality judging teams succeeded at numerous competitions, including the honor of a state title.

The La Vernia poultry team dominated the contests throughout the year. At the Tarleton State Invitational contest, the team took second place overall. Katy Sells and Trevor Kosub earned fourth and sixth place, individually.

At the Texas A&M Judging Clinic, the team earned second place. Individual standings were Trevor Kosub, seventh; Travis Dupnick, eighth; and Katy Sells, ninth place.

In the Area contest, held at Texas A&M April 14, the team placed second overall. Individually, Trevor Kosub earned fourth place; Katy Sells, fifth; and Travis Dupnick, sixth.

With this Area contest win, the team advanced to the May 5 State contest, placing first in Texas. Individually, Travis Dupnick placed first; Trevor Kosub, second; Brooke Young, third; and Katy Sells, seventh.

This team will advance to Nationals competition in October.

This is the seventh time the La Vernia FFA has reached their goal of going to Nationals.

Another team competing at State was the floriculture judging team. This team is still fairly new in that this is the fourth year that they have competed. They competed March 22 at the Tarleton Invitational Contest and received eighth place.

In the Sam Houston State University Invitational contest, the team received fourth place overall.

In the April 14 Texas A&M Area contest, the floriculture team placed first overall with Samantha Kravitz receiving second place individually; Mariel McFadin, eighth; Sydnee Coats, 10th; and Courtney Cook, 12th. Other team members are Allison Bukowski and Emily Mollenkopf.

For the first time, the La Vernia FFA Floriculture Judging Team made it to the State contest at Sam Houston University on May 4, and placed 16th overall out of 50 teams.

The meats team also had a very successful year.

The team of Erica McMurray, Coby Mills, Kyle Dupnick, and Tristan Summy

participated in the Tarleton State Invitational contest on March 22, and received 28th place.

In the April 14 Texas A&M Area contest, the team placed seventh overall.

The judging teams are supervised by Jennifer Kotzur and Kevin Sells, La Vernia FFA advisors.
