ESD No. 2 approves website deal
EAGLE CREEK -- Those wishing to stay abreast of developments within the Wilson County Emergency Services District (ESD) No. 2 will be able to do so online. The district plans to launch its website June 1, following approval at its May 17 meeting of an agreement with GoDaddy.com.
ESD board president Keith Wildes said after the meeting that GoDaddy will establish the domain name, provide email services and storage, and host the site for five years for approximately $800. The board will maintain the site.
“The site will allow the community to access official documents, track meeting schedules, post meeting agendas, provide educational services, and communicate special emergency conditions that affect the community,” Wildes said.
In other action, the board voted to send a letter to Wilson County Judge Marvin Quinney and County Clerk Eva Martinez, asking that the commissioners court allow a 30-day extension for the delivery of the ESD’s 2011 fiscal year financial audit. Wildes said the audit will be completed by the end of May, but that it needed to be reviewed and approved by the district’s board prior to being presented to the Wilson County Commissioners Court.
Also during the meeting, the board addressed ongoing issues between the ESD and the Eagle Creek Volunteer Emergency Services. The discussion followed a May 3 workshop with the Wilson County Commissioners Court. See “County judge urges cooperation between ESD, EMS,” May 9.
Wildes said ESD board members outlined their 1-1/2-year-long frustration with attempting to communicate with the organization -- which includes both the Eagle Creek Volunteer Fire Department and the Eagle Creek Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Despite rumors to the contrary, Wildes reiterated that he and other ESD board members have no intentions of trying to take over the operations of the Eagle Creek Volunteer Emergency Services.
During the discussion, according to Wildes after the meeting, board member Sarah Gella said the ESD board has tried to work with the organization, and initially had selected it as the district’s provider of fire and EMS services. But Eagle Creek missed deadlines to produce vital pieces of information needed for negotiations.
Attempts to obtain comment via telephone and email from Eagle Creek EMS Director Shirley Schriber prior to press time May 21 were unsuccessful.
