CASA VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR, FULL-TIME POSITION. Provides professional staff support to CASA volunteers to ensure that abused children’s best interests are represented in court. Social services experience required.  Responsible for assisting with recruiting and initial training of advocates, and coordinating cases in Wilson County and Karnes County with Atascosa County (home office). Must demonstrate written and presentation communication skills. Must be available to work intermittent evenings/weekends with some travel.  Must have personal car, current TDL, and auto liability insurance. Offer condolences


Joe Cantu Jr., a Floresville, Texas, resident for the past 30 years, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2012, at the age of 78. He was born July 16, 1933, in Karnes City, the son of Matiana Molina and Jose S. Cantu Sr.

Joe was a member of Sacred Heart Church, the Lions Club, the Decolores, and he Texas Sheriffs Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Joel Cantu; his brother, Celestino Cantu; and his sister, Geneva Garza.

Joe is survived by his wife, Connie Cantu of Floresville; his daughters, Julie Ramirez, Janie Barrera and husband Eddie, and Susie Martinez and husband Pete, all of Floresville; his son, Jose Cantu III and wife Gennie Brown Cantu of La Vernia; his sister, Paula Thomas of Ranger; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A rosary was recited Tuesday, May 15, at 7 p.m. in the Franklin Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville, with the Rev. Phil Henning as celebrant.

Interment followed in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Floresville.

Serving as pallbearers were Raymond Daniels, Alex Ramirez, Joey Cantu IV, Eugene Cantu, Eddie Barrera Jr., and Dustin Rocha.
