Houston Livestock Show brings rewards for EC FFA members

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo brought forth many rewards for East Central FFA members from the poultry show to the judging events during spring break.
In the market turkey show, 10 East Central Central FFA members made the sale, including:
•Turkey hens -- Jordan Hevner, 23rd; Johnna Pieniazek, 30th; Jessica Hawkins, 42nd; and, Krystal Zigmond 44th.
•Turkey toms -- Aaron Maron, sixth; Caid Franckowiak, eighth; Cole Franckowiak, 11th; Jeffrey Noblitt, 24th; Ty Birdsong, 38th; and Callie Rainosek, 44th.
Three students placed in the market broiler show with their pullet entries, including Johnna Pieniazek, 76th; Koy Dieckow, 81st; and Jordan Hevner, 94th.
The poultry evaluation team also had a strong showing at the Houston show by placing ninth.
The meats evaluation team took home champion honors with team members Jordan Hevner, second-high; Christi Schick, fourth-high; Aaron Maron, 13th-high; and Shelbi Knox.
In the market swine show, two exhibitors made the sale -- Christi Schick’s Duroc plaed ninth, while Caid Franckowiak’s Duroc placed third.
Callan Sramek earned reserve champion honors for her multimedia presentation which was featured in Champion’s Row.
Kaitlyn Kempen took home the Champion Junior Public Speaker title, while Kylie Patterson placed third in this event.
During the market steer show, Aexis Wagner earned ninth place with her Chi steer.
During the breeding heifer show, Christi Schick earned first-place honors with her Simbrah heifer, and Stephanie Geistweidt’s scramble heifer earned a third-place award in the scramble show and a seventh-place award in the junior show.
Kylie Patterson was named the winner of the Broussard Award from the Steer Starlets and Kaitlyn Kempen was awarded the 2012 Steer Starlet Award.
Two teams competed in the ag mechanics contest. Trevor Moczygemba and Ethan Snoga received a red ribbon for their 5-foot-by-10-foot hog scale trailer. The trailer will be utilized by the East Central FFA chapter.
Jacob Allen, Kyle Brown, Gerald Ramzinski, Jay Thomas, and Colton Zizelman received a blue ribbon for their 20-foot portable cattle chute.
