SAN ANTONIO -- Kyndal Bippert of Floresville, Lauren Howes of Adkins, Kaitlyn Jarzombek and Scott Lyssy of Falls City, and Alysson Bluhm of Hobson are recipients of the 2012 All American Scholar Award, sponsored by Catholic Life Insurance, the nation’s eighth-largest fraternal life insurer. Each year, Catholic Life awards 35 scholarships worth $1,000 each to graduating high school seniors who have gone above and beyond in their civic duties, and made a difference in their communities.

The All American Scholar Award was designed to offset tuition costs for young Catholic Life members attending an accredited college or university in the fall semester immediately following their senior year of high school.

This award recognizes those special individuals who have dedicated their valuable time and efforts to helping others while remaining devoted to their academic studies, and Catholic Life Insurance strives to reward this high degree of selfless commitment.

Bippert, the daughter of Ryan and Laura Bippert, plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin this fall. Her extracurricular activities include varsity volleyball, the National Honor Society, Student Council, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, varsity golf, powerlifting, the 4-H Club, and the Prom Committee. She has volunteered with St. Anthony’s Church, Sacred Heart Church, FFA, Locks of Love, and the Salvation Army.

Howes is the daughter of Brian and Cindy Howes, and plans to attend Texas A&M University in College Station. Her extracurricular activities include varsity softball, Student Council, National Beta Club, National Honor Society, FCCLA, Interact Club, and FFA. She has volunteered with St. Jerome Catholic Church, Normandy Terrace Nursing Home, Habitat for Humanity, Seton Home, and the Ronald McDonald House.

Jarzombek, who plans to attend Stephen F. Austin State University, is the daughter of Patrick and Karissa Jarzombek. Her extracurricular activities include Spanish Club, National Honor Society, Drama Club, Student Council, cheerleading, track, basketball, and band. She has volunteered with Junior Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Wilson County Youth Basketball League, and Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Lyssy is the son of Melvin and Nancy Lyssy, and he plans to attend Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. His extracurricular activities include the National Honor Society, FFA, band, Student Council, football, basketball, track, and baseball. He has been a volunteer for Holy Trinity Church, the FFA, Holy Trinity Community Hall, and Youth Ministry Program.

Bluhm, who plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin, is the daughter of Russell and Bernadette Bluhm. Her extracurricular activities include basketball, track, colorguard, concert band, the 4-H Club, National Honor Society, Drama Club, Spanish Club, and the school newspaper. She has volunteered with the church choir and altar servers, the Karnes County Drug Coalition, the Athletic Booster Club, and the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church.

The scholarship is open to Catholic Life members who are also graduating high school seniors. Scholarship winners are selected based on their community service, demonstration of leadership qualities, and scholastic achievement.
