For the 20th consecutive year, Catholic Life Insurance will be hosting the annual old-fashioned flag-raising ceremony honoring the 235th anniversary of the American flag.

The event will take place on Thursday, June 14, in the Catholic Life home office building, located at 1635 N.E. Loop 410 in San Antonio.

This event is free to the public and kicks off with a Mass at 6 p.m. in the recently built outdoor pavilion, followed by a flag-raising ceremony at 6:45 p.m. The event will feature a tribute to the flag, refreshments, and children’s activities. Guests will also enjoy a picnic of hot dogs and ice cream. Free commemorative T-shirts will be given while supplies last. Participants can take a chair or blanket.

Catholic Life has hosted this event for the past 20 years in an effort to promote patriotism in the community through the celebration of a great American symbol. This year marks the 63rd anniversary of the Act of Congress establishing June 14 as National Flag Day.

Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the first U.S. flag by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1777. The festivities are designed to increase awareness of the flag and to reinforce the principles of liberty and justice as defined in the Pledge of Allegiance.

To reserve a space at the event, call 210-828-9921 or 800-929-2548, ext. 141, by Friday, June 8.
