FHS May students of the month
The Floresville High School female student of the month is Brittany Aikens, the 17-year-old daughter of Janice and Derrick Aikens.
Brittany’s strengths are communication, woo, adaptability, achiever, and activator.
She is treasurer of the National Honor Society. Brittany is a member of Student Council and Red Cross and is historian/reporter for the class of 2012. As a former member of the Mighty Tiger Band, Brittany was a member of the “Pit” during her freshman and sophomore years.
She was named student of the month for October for the junior class. Brittany was on the “A/B Honor Roll” her freshman year and the “A Honor Roll” the following three years. She was also recognized for perfect attendance for her sophomore year.
She has been a member of the varsity tennis team for four years and the varsity basketball team for three years. Brittany was also a member of the cross-country team this year. She earned first place in girls singles at district competition, and has been named to the First Team All District. As a member of the basketball team, Brittany has been named to the First Team All-District and TABC All-Region Team. She was named to the San Antonio All-Area Team and the All-State Academic Team. Brittany was named the Offensive Most Valuable Player at the West Oso Tournament. She was invited to the Lone Star Invitational Senior All-Star and First Annual Greater San Antonio Area High School All-Star games.
She has helped the Boys & Girls Club and volunteered with Haven for Hope.
Brittany is employed in the Floresville North Elementary library through the FHS Co-op program.
Brittany plans to attend Prairie View, Howard College, or Southeast Baptist as a member of their basketball team. She is undecided on a major but is considering architecture.
The May male student of the month is Matthew Crockett, the 17-year-old son of Lee Crockett and Nancy and Alan McKee. Matthew’s strengths are responsibility, consistency, communication, analytical, and competition.
Earlier this spring, Matthew was inducted into the FHS Chapter of the National Honor Society. He is also very active in the FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes). As a Link Crew leader, Matthew has served as a peer mentor to incoming freshmen to help them make a smooth transition into high school.
Matthew played cornerback on the varsity football team and was this year’s team captain. He was named Second Team All-District Cornerback. He has been a member of the varsity track and field team for the past three years. Matthew has been a regional qualifier in multiple events for the past three years. This year, he qualified for regionals in triple jump, long jump, high jump, 300m hurdles and 110m hurdles. He was also invited to this year’s Texas Relays to participate in the high jump competition.
In his free time, Matthew helps care for his grandmother.
Upon graduation in June, Matthew plans to participate in AAU track in hopes of being offered a track and field scholarship. He is considering attending the University of the Incarnate Word, Texas State University, University of Houston, or the University of Texas at San Antonio. Matthew plans to major in accounting and pursue a career as a CPA.
