1922-2012

Margaret (Moczygemba) Strey passed into the Lord’s hands on Thursday, May 24, 2012, at the age of 89. Margaret was born in Kosciuszko, Texas, on June 10, 1922, to Frank and Proxie (Dupnik) Moczygemba.

She was married to Harold Strey on Nov. 16, 1946. Margaret spent her childhood on the family farm in Kosciuszko and remembered fondly the chores performed, like tending animals, crops, and playing in the fields with her siblings. She was famous for her outstanding cooking, and you never left without something to eat or drink when visiting. Her passion for her flowers, yard, and garden made her feel close to God and heaven.

She was admired by all who knew her for her courage, practicality, and independence and for her devotion to her husband, church, and family. She never missed a birthday greeting, by phone or mail, to her extended family.

Margaret was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Harold, in 2010; her parents; her infant daughter, Edith; her siblings, George and wife Helen, Robert, and Albin Moczygemba; and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Bernie and Jane Strey, Kenneth Strey, Eli and Shirleen Strey, Herby Pierdolla, and J.D. McInvale.

Margaret is survived by her sons, Patrick Strey and wife Cindy and Edward “Chuck” Strey and wife Patti; her daughter, Deborah Rackler and husband Roy; her brother, Archie Moczygemba and wife Mary; her sister, Olivia Sobeczek and husband Clarence; and six grandchildren, Michael Shawn Carusella and wife Heather, Patrick “Erick” Strey and wife Heather, Tracy Carusella and wife Shannon, Jennifer Strey, Christopher Strey and wife Sarah, and Randall Strey and wife Darrian. She deeply loved her grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, Mikayla and Tyler “Tiger” Carusella and Carson Strey. She enjoyed every moment spent with her great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Willfloyd Strey and wife Lillian, Otto Strey and wife Ann, Ruby Lee Pierdolla, Aileen McInvale, Mary Rose Strey, and Shirley Moczygemba; four stepgrandchildren, Cynthia Agold, Andrew “Andy” Rackler, and Tracie Doyle and husband Darryl; and four stepgreat-grandchildren, Alexandria Tober, D.J. and Kellie Doyle, and Dylon Rackler.

Visitation was held Tuesday, May 29, from 5-9 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. in the Brookehill Funeral Home in San Antonio.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the St. Cecilia Catholic Church in San Antonio.

Entombment followed in the Holy Cross Cemetery in San Antonio.

Donations may be made for memorial Masses to St. Cecilla Catholic Church, 125 Whittier St., San Antonio, TX 78210.
