Friday, May 25

Compared to last week: Hay prices mostly steady on slow movement. Recent rains in areas of Texas have made getting hay out of the field difficult. Reports of a resistance from dairies as they are still using up old contracts and continue to wait for new crop prices to establish. Many producers are in the process of cutting and baling. Good outlook on crop for the new season with hay growers receiving rain that was hard to come by last year.

Prices for hay and pellets quoted per ton except where noted.

North, Central, & East Texas

Alfalfa: Small Squares: Delivered: Premium to Supreme limited test $265; $8 per bale.

Large Squares: Delivered: Premium to Supreme limited test $220. Good to Premium $210-$220; Fair to Good $190-$210.

Coastal Bermuda: Small Squares: FOB: Good to Premium $265-$330, $8-$10 per bale, Fair quality $6-$8.

Large Rounds: FOB: New Crop $80-$90 per roll.

Rye Hay: Large Rounds: FOB: $60-$80; Small Squares: FOB: $8-$10 per bale.

South Texas Hay Report
