Help Wanted

First Lutheran Church in Floresville is seeking a Director of Youth and Family Ministry, part-time 20 hours/week. Qualifications: Have active worship life and ongoing growth in faith, understanding of Lutheran-Christian tradition, ability to work with both adults and youth, basic computer and organizational skills. Director will disciple both parents and youth grades 1-12, establish appropriate caring relationships with youth, seek opportunities to connect with youth in their environment on their schedule, organize parents into groups for children's ministry work, arrange at least 3 annual local events or trips for Sr. high youth, recruit and encourage youth and adults to take positions of shared leadership and involvement, create and implement means for regular communication with parents and youth, manage youth and family ministry calendar in collaboration with staff, parents, and youth. EC seniors receive State Fair scholarships

Three graduating seniors from East Central High School in San Antonio have each been awarded a four-year, $5,000 Youth Livestock Scholarship sponsored by the State Fair of Texas. Kyle Dean Brown, Brooke Marie Kosub, and Christi Catherine Schick will receive $1,250-a-year scholarships, which are renewable by maintaining a 3.0 GPA.

Since 1992, the State Fair of Texas Scholarship Program has awarded scholarships to academically talented students who graduate from high schools in the Dallas State Fair Park area.

Kyle Brown

Brown participated in the State Fair of Texas Youth Livestock Show in 2010 and 2011, in the Youth Market Barrow Shows and a first place. In high school he has been an active member of FFA, Beta Club, and National Honor Society, and active in community service. He has held numerous offices in those clubs and received many awards and honors during his high school career. He is the son of Kevin and Regena Brown of San Antonio and plans to attend Texas A&M University in College Station and major in poultry science.

Brooke Kosub

Kosub participated in the State Fair of Texas Youth Livestock Shows in 2009 and 2011. She was in the 4-H/FFA Livestock Judging Contest and the Youth Market Beef Steer Show. In high school she has been an active member of FFA, 4-H Club, Beta Club, National Honor Society, and the Student Council. She has held numerous offices in those clubs and received many awards and honors during her high school career and has been active in community service. She plans to attend Texas A&M University and major in agricultural economics. She is the daughter of Thomas and Judith Kosub of St. Hedwig.

Christi Schick

Schick participated in the State Fair of Texas Youth Livestock Shows from 2007-11. She showed in the Youth Market Barrow and Youth Beef Heifer Shows and in the 4-H/FFA Agricultural Science Fair, and won numerous places, including first place. In high school she has been an active member of FFA, 4-H Club, FCCLA, Beta Club, National Honor Society, and HOSA, and has been a class officer. She has held numerous offices in those clubs and received many awards and honors during her high school career and also has been active in community service. She is the daughter of David and Catherine Schick of San Antonio and plans to attend Texas A&M University, majoring in nutritional sciences.
