FLORESVILLE -- Floresville city councilmen John W. Guerrero and Mario Morones want clarification on the city’s recently released 2011 fiscal year audit. On June 6, the two informed City Secretary Margaret Aranda that they wanted to schedule a special meeting of the city council for Monday, June 11.

Guerrero, who voted against accepting the audit report after it was presented May 30, said he wanted to be able to review the 69-page report and ask questions. He also wants to know what city officials are doing to correct the concerns cited by auditor Patricia K. Wagner, and if staffing changes need to be made.

Morones, who was not present at the May 30 meeting, raised objections over not having sufficient time to review the lengthy audit report prior to being asked to approve it. He believes the council owes it to the citizens to obtain clarification and allay their concerns.

As of 1:30 p.m. June 8, the city’s website makes no mention of the special meeting. Responding to a question about when or if the agenda would be posted, Aranda said, “As I do with all meetings, the notice will be posted 72 hours before the scheduled time of meeting.”

Does the city post the meeting minutes publicly? And where can I find them?

Isnt there some rule about councilmen having to attend meetings, and if they miss X number of meetings in a row then they will be removed from the council? If so, can Mr. Morones and Mr. Guerrero call another special meeting... More ›

Being an elected official is no fun at times. But as an elected official, you have to do things you may not like. To simply play politics, and not respect your fellow council members, on an issue they feel important, from a humanistic... More ›

We all remember what happened to Richard Nixon. The cover up was worse than the crime. When the forensic audit is completed, I will feel sorry for anybody that may have taken any money. They should and will be prosecuted.
